Handcrafted childhood memories photo album
Do you have a box of old photos hiding under your bed or worse still,in the attic? Lotus blu book art was essentially born out of my mission to get all my old photos out of boxes and into beautiful handcrafted photo albums, but for the last couple of years my personal projects have taken a back seat while I create books for other folk.
The book featured today is one I made for a customer in Australia who as a child spent a lot of time on the beach with her brother…she wanted a special book to home all those memories of sandy toes and salty kisses. ''something that looks like it has been washed up on the beach.'' she said.
And,so this is what I made for her…
[childhood memories photo album]
I made the cover by drawing into gesso, then once dry I rub paint into it to reveal the textured image…this is a long process, but it is one I love. Watching the image drawn developing like a photograph is fun.
I added some ground walnut shell which I had from my short stint of soap making…I'm glad I hung on to it as it made a perfect sandy beach.
The pages were distressed and sprayed to reflect the metal shimmer of fish. some smaller interleaves with a colour wash and twill kites.
My family and I love the beach and living in Ireland where the beaches are stunning, albeit freezing we tend to go whenever the sun shines. Here is a picture of my son Kahal, just to show you how such a book can be used.Normally I would recommend using Herma photo stickers to attach photographs, but cool washi tape works well and adds a little extra embellishment to the pages.
If you are at all into scrapbooking or keep an art journal, don't be afraid to add to the pages of any book you order from me.That is what they are all about…making them completely YOU! I take out the hard work by making the book, you can then elaborate and junk it up further.Just have fun with them.
A little piece of Irish sea glass features on this pocket…Love foraging on the seashore looking for such treasure!
The book was tied with wired twill ribbon which can be moulded into shape…a little apothecary jar was added with more ground walnut shell, tiny shells and seaweed.
I hope the guardian of this book has many years of enjoyment flipping through the pages.
