A one-of-a-kind paperback journal featuring screen printed Japanese chiyogami paper stylised peonies and waves within a hand painted border.

In Japanese art, peonies are known as the "king of flowers", they are a symbol of prosperity and honour, while the overlapping arcs of waves called seigaiha stand for peace rolling on without end. Paired together, peonies and water are a symbol of good fortune.

The exposed spine is hand embellished with imitation gold leaf, aged with walnut ink. Hand bound with tea-stained handmade cotton and linen rag paper, this is a journal for those who find beauty in imperfection and a little olde-world charm.

Its earthy, toned pages make a lovely backdrop for mixed media, pressed flowers and botanical studies. Use it as an art journal, recipe book, scrapbook, as a herbarium or gardening journal to keep the seasons close.

Paper Notes: Best suited to soft pastels, technical drawing pens, acrylic and gouache. The paper is only light sized, so it will only take very light washes of watercolour.
